Can organizations that are not based in the U.S. apply?
Yes, the Fund accepts applications from organizations around the world.

Can individuals apply for a grant?
The Fund accepts online applications from 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations based in the U.S., non-U.S. based non-profit organizations and non-governmental organizations, governmental entities, accredited universities and research centers, and AZA- or AMMPA-accredited institutions. Applications from individuals not affiliated with any of the entities listed above will not be accepted.

May college students apply for a grant?
While the Fund acknowledges that university/college students working on projects as part of a degree (e.g., thesis research) contribute significantly to baseline data, grant-making preference is given to projects using applied research toward specific wildlife conservation outcomes/goals.

What is the timeframe for the grant application process?
All grant applications for each year's granting session are due by December 1 of the prior year. Applications are reviewed by the Grants Committee, Scientific Advisory Panel and Board of Directors. All applicants will be notified of their status in the spring (approx. April/May) of the grant-making year.

How soon after a grant application is approved are the funds distributed?
After a grant application is approved, an Expenditure Agreement must be signed and returned to the Fund before check dispersal/wire transfer will occur.

How do you submit an application?
Only applications submitted via the online application form available on swbg-conservationfund.org will be accepted. A confirmation e-mail will be sent to the submitter once the application is correctly submitted. Applicants should retain this confirmation for their records.

Can an organization submit more than one application in a granting session?
Yes, an organization may submit multiple applications if they are seeking funding for multiple, distinct projects.

Is there a maximum amount for a grant award?
The Fund has no set minimum or maximum grant amount. In the past, however, the Fund has awarded grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 for a one-year term. We encourage organizations to simultaneously seek additional funding from other sources if necessary to complete the objectives of the project. The Fund will consider multi-year proposals, as many worthy conservation and research efforts require multiple years to achieve results and positive impact.

How will a grant award be processed?
A wire transfer or check may be requested.

Who should be contacted for trouble or errors using the online application?
Contact mail@swbgfund.org for troubleshooting.
